THE MUST-HAVE SLEEPING MASK

FOR GLOWING SKIN

One skincare product for that "glow from within".

KATHERINE SPOWART on MAY 27, 2019

Sleeping masks, if formulated well, can be magical. Think of them like a “sealing” layer that ensures your skin absorbs and retains all the goodness from your evening routine while you sleep. They’re super simple to use- apply after the last step in your routine and rinse off in the morning. However, it can be a little tricky to find that perfect sleeping mask for glowy skin at an affordable price. And that’s why today I’m discussing Cosrx Ultimate Moisturizing Honey Overnight Mask. This is not a new product nor a particularly fancy one, but it’s one of the best out there and vastly underrated in my humble opinion. Let’s get into it.

WHAT IS IT?

Described on the tube as:

“Enriched with more than 87% of propolis extract, and natural beeswax, this mask provides intensive hydration with refreshing moisture”.

The mask can be applied after cream in a night-time routine and then rinsed off the following morning. It can also be used as a wash-off mask if you prefer. It is supposed to help moisturize and hydrate skin. The tube packaging makes it hygienic and easy to use, and the texture is that of a thin gel. The scent is slightly sweet but dissipates on application.

INGREDIENTS BREAKDOWN

Full list as per Cosrx:

Propolis Extract, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Betaine, 1,2-Hexanediol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Arginine, Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Extract, Dimethicone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Carbomer, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beeswax, Allantoin, Panthenol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Adenosine

You get 60ml of product in the tube and the formula is based on the properties of propolis extract, of which it contains a huge 87.26%. Propolis extract is both an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredient. It promotes healing and is soothing for sensitive skin. It has been used in traditional medicine for years and is a well-known ingredient in the K-Beauty market.

The dimethicone and beeswax work as our occlusives here, to help lock in the moisture. It’s always important to be aware of your own sensitivities when looking at ingredients lists.

RESULTS

The results of using this mask are, quite simply, wonderful. The propolis soothes my redness and cools skin immediately on application. The lightweight formula ensures that I’m not left with a heavy, sticky feeling on the skin, and the product does not smear all over my pillows. Quite the opposite- it dries down much more quickly than most sleeping masks and allows me to get to sleep ASAP. Ideal right? The quick-drying formula makes this a unique sleeping mask. Because of this lighter texture, I’m inclined to say it would be ideal for oily skin-types who have perhaps struggled with sleeping masks in the past. They can be heavy and this Cosrx version does not fall into that “heavy” category at all.

Waking up the next morning, the glow is THERE. My skin feels like it has perfectly retained all moisture and has a bounce to it. Propolis is such a star ingredient for helping create that “glow from within” and it really is apparent the morning after using this product.

I particularly love combining the sleeping mask with the Cosrx Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream (aka one of my favourite moisturizers) for even more standout results, although it works really well alone too.

One of the most exciting things about this K-beauty product is the price and availability. Searching online, it is available worldwide at so many different online stores. It’s incredible that Korean beauty has become so accessible in the global market. The price is around $20, and for such a winning product, this is a steal.

Spam I have tried it... I just don't like the "stickiness" it leaves when you apply it. For sleeping masks I prefer the Rice one from Cosrx. I have tried also the beauty of Joseon sleeping pack. And I do still prefer Overnight Rice Mask. :)

I'm currently using Propolis Ampoule from Tosoowoong.
